Candlestick Madness

I adore candle sticks and Candles. When Rick and I go shopping Target or any store for that matter, I ooh and ahh over them but never want to pay the mulah. So the other day after class I went to D.I. and found these little treasures!

Now they did not come with the bird on top... you will see what I am going to do with that later, but they  did come this chalky silver color, regardless I bought them for $1 and did a little happy dance!
So now for the bird.
I kept seeing candle sticks everywhere with fleur de lis or other nick nacks on top that I LOVE. I kept thinking it would be easy to make, and sure enough it was! I thought, the idea, would be perfect for the tall one because it was for a candle stick.... and I like Pillars :) So I found the bird at the dollar store, took it home, and hot glued it on top!

After the glue was dry, I spray painted grey primer all over them. Then after the primer was dry I painted them cream with just plain craft paint I got at walmart and a sponge brush! Then It snowed. Blah. So I had to delay finishing. So I went to D.I. again and found MORE candle sticks!

They were again made for candle sticks, but I remembered my bird and how easy it was to change the use of the candle stick, so i started hunting! I found (as you can see in the picture) coasters at the D.I. and just glued them to the top.... now they will hold pillars! Or whatever else I think up :)

On Sunday Rick and I decided to spend a little quality time with Spray Paint, oh and each other :)
This is the result!

Nice smooth Freshly painted black Candle sticks! This isn't the best picture But I promise they really look amazing! With the bird and smallest stick I sanded them so the cream would show through and put them up on my mantle! The coaster sticks will go on top of my piano!

Hows that for a finishing touch? I'm in love, and Rick cant stop starring at them, So i guess that means their good!

Oh and just if your wondering...
The total cost for this was a mere $4.13

  1. Really pretty project and I love the yellow with your black and white mantel decor pieces. Very clever.

  2. Ok so now I have to have you tell me next time you see some of those babies! I have been eying a little trio of candlesticks just like those but in white at Roberts (the little display table in the center of the store). But the price made me gag and die because I knew that I couldn't afford that even in my dreams. Your price is sooo much better!
